AWESOMEFEST 2011 : THE FILM by Stephen Brooks

A brand new drift weekend was created by the people of DriftWorks and they named it Awesomefest.

I attended this weekend along with the GarageLSD lot and the SXOC. I will have some pictures up shortly, as I never got round to editing them. In the mean time you can check out Garage LSD's coverage here.

Another awesome video by Stephen Brooks covering the weekend. I like how he managed to sum up the whole weekend perfectly. There are some really amazing footage and it made me miss being there.

Total Jap Car Scotland 2011 - Knockhill Racing Circuit with Sumo Hashiru

I was debating whether to go to this show or the Scottish Modified show. In the end the decision was made for me when I was invited out to the Total Jap Car Scotland show by the Sumo Hashiru lot.

I was also invited to stay over at Billy's house and stayed for a night. It was the first time ever meeting them and wow their hospitality was amazing. I cannot thank Billy and Dewi enough for having me over.

On the Saturday, I made my way over to Billy's house after getting escorted by Henry, I was greeted with the upon arrival on the driveway a 4 Door Integra Type R, 5 Door Civic Hatch, CRX Del Sol and Henry's Civic Coupe. The crowd then grew larger as the day drew on.

Needless to say we were drinking until something o clock in the morning, had about 3-4 hours sleep maximum and then got up and started to get ready to go to Knockhill. Once we got there the day wasn't really that well organised. Our stand was supposedly meant to be on a bit of dirt in the corner which was not enough space to fit 3 cars let alone the 9 cars that we had. In the end we got set up at the end of the show area, which turned out to be a pretty good spot.

During the show there was the usual show stands. Some exceptional cars appearing but in my opinion quite a lot of average to normal cars.

There was constantly track time for people to go on track...pretty much ran as a hot hatch session where you buy sessions of track time. They had a 1/4 mile competition which Sumo Hashiru participated in too:

They had a drifting competition with 3 participants and also a drift demo from Team Japspeed and Team ScotDrift. The demo's ended up being about 15-25 minutes long and didn't seem long enough.

I did however just walked into the drifting paddocks without any issues whatsoever to get some sneaky pictures

All of the other times were taken up by hot hatches which doing time attack and was 60% non-japanese cars and was quite boring to watch in all honesty considering it was a Japanese car show.

The end of the show though there was a track invasion. This allowed all the show cars invade the Knockhill circuit itself. This was one of the highlights of the day. As you parade around the track, you realise how hard some of the corners are and how much commitment and trust you need to have with your car in order to take some of the corners at speed. We stopped back near the the straight where the finish line was and they let everyone out on track to take photographs.

All in all, a good show. Preferred the drifting to be longer and less of the normal track. I liked the fact they had different events on, like a drift off and a 1/4 mile run (even though they let a time attack evo compete and win the competition). But I enjoyed myself which is the main thing :)

Did I mention that Dewi won the car of the show with her K24'd CRX Del Sol? No? It was so clean and everything was spot on. Attention to detail was crazy, they even had Mugen nuts and bolts. Congratulations Dewi on a well deserved win :)
